Automated doors and accessible entry
We design and document powered entry, egress and nominated internal door controls. The scope brings accessible push buttons, mobile operation, appropriate voice integration and remote or carer controls together with the door’s safety and emergency requirements.

Motorised blinds and accessible lighting
Nominated blinds can be controlled through the central application, voice interface, local wall switch, accessible remote and automated scenes. Lighting design includes accessible local switches, application and voice control, scenes and dimming where supported. Bedroom-specific control gives each participant appropriate access to their own environment.
Heating, cooling and selected appliance functions
We document interfaces with the mechanical services system for participant control, accessible thermostats, mobile and voice operation. Individual room or zone control depends on the mechanical system. Selected power and appliance functions can be brought into the environmental control interface where appropriate and compatible. The final design identifies what the installed equipment actually supports.
Emergency communication with the support team
Participant-to-support communication can include accessible call points, bedroom emergency calls and pendant or wireless call capability where required. Notifications can reach onsite overnight assistance (OOA) or other nominated support staff, with audible, visual and appropriate mobile-device interfaces. Safety-critical communication is designed not to depend solely on internet connectivity or a consumer voice assistant.
- Define who receives, acknowledges and responds to each call.
- Agree escalation and behaviour when a connection or component is unavailable.

Smart video intercom and door release
An integrated IP video intercom supports audio/video communication, accessible door release, an internal display and appropriate mobile application operation. The design can include OOA or support-staff answering and integration with automated entry doors. Answering, viewing and releasing a door are assigned according to the agreed user permissions.
Adjustable benches and sinks
Where the architectural or interior design specifies electrically adjustable fixtures, we document appropriate AT interfaces after checking technical compatibility. Safety controls, anti-crush protection and local operation remain independent of the central automation platform. Fixture selection and its safety requirements are coordinated with the responsible design team and manufacturer.
Privacy and personal control
The shared platform uses separate participant zones and permissions, including private bedroom controls. Agree what support staff can operate and how access changes when staff or residents change. If sensors or recording are proposed, review their purpose, consent and privacy implications with the resident and responsible provider. The NDIS Commission’s surveillance guidance is relevant to that review.
Common project questions
Does accessible home automation have to use voice control?
No. Voice is one option. The design can include wall-mounted controls, accessible remotes, a mobile or tablet application, scenes and support interfaces. The preferred methods are selected around the participant.
Can automation be added to an existing SIL home?
Yes, an existing setup can be reviewed for an upgrade. Device compatibility, property permissions, power, cabling and network requirements determine the practical scope.
Are emergency calls the same as ordinary app notifications?
No. Emergency communication needs a defined call, acknowledgement and response arrangement, with appropriate local and backup operation. A consumer app notification alone is not the design basis for safety-critical communication.
How much does a complete SIL automation system cost?
Costs depend on the functions, control points, existing equipment, installation and coordination work. Request a project-specific quote with equipment, setup, handover and any recurring services itemised.
